Sustainable Housing Plans
Tiny House will
Stand for Years to Come
Cedar City, UTAH (April 1, 2019) – Jason Brimhall, a senior at
Southern Utah University, announces the completion of his project, Sustainable
Housing Plan. This project was the full design of a small house for Dust Devil
Ranch Sanctuary for Horses. This structure will allow groups of up to four
people to stay on site and maximize volunteer time over a small period. The
current accommodations include a travel trailer for volunteer groups to stay on
site. This project was done during through the last few months and was finished
in March of 2019.
With
a simple design, small footprint, and solar energy, this new structure will
provide years of comfort to the volunteers staying on site and reduction in the
non-profit sanctuary’s energy costs. The solar system was designed to offset
most of the ranch’s power usage including the owner’s home, the new structure,
and auxiliary systems. With a smaller footprint and minimal design, this
reduces the energy consumption for the new structure, but still allows guests
to have access to a private kitchen.
This
house plan was accomplished by Jason Brimhall. He is a senior at Southern Utah
University receiving his bachelor’s degree in engineering this May. He finished
this project as a way to gain more experience in the field of civil
engineering.
